Personal Statement
I like the feeling of competing against myself, always striving for a new PR. Setting my high school's record in discus and placing at state were big accomplishments for me as a sophomore. As a junior, I was able to improve on my school record, set new PRs in indoor and outdoor shot, earn a spot for shot at Illinois Top Times indoor state meet, set a meet record at the outdoor Pana Invitational, place 1st in discus in our conference, and place 3rd in discus at the 1A Illinois State Track and Field Finals.
I have been working hard to improve my discus and shot marks this summer. In practice, I am now throwing discus 140'+ and shot 40+, recently hitting 140 in discus in a USATF meet. I can hardly wait for an IHSA meet next spring so that I can make those marks official. I have also started to learn javelin, hammer, and weight.
In addition to track, I also enjoy school. I'll admit it, I'm a huge nerd when it comes to school. I take pride in my grades. I also enjoy tutoring the junior high kids and working with the grade schoolers. However, next to track, my favorite thing to do is to volunteer at Camp Barnabas. Camp Barnabas is a camp for kids with special needs. I have spent a week at the camp the camp each summer of high school. It is so rewarding to help a camper have a great camp experience. The time that I've spent at Camp Barnabas has led me to have an interest in being a special education teacher.
Thank you for letting me tell you a little bit about myself! I appreciate your interest.
