My name is Amanda Rectanus and I love to throw heavy objects! I have not been throwing for very long, but I have been told I could throw at the college level if I continue to improve. I throw the shot, hammer and discus and I feel I am improving every time I step in the ring.
I started my throwing career my freshman year at Bishop Luers. I was on the varsity team my freshman year and by the end of the season, I was the longest and most consistent in the shot put. I just missed qualifying for the Sectional final. My sophamore year, I was second on the varsity team in scoring and made the Sectional final, but unfortunately I failed to qualify for Regionals. I improved my PR in both shot and discus (shot - +5' and discus - +30'). This improvement helped me receive my first varsity letter (my team only awards letters on team points received in meets). This last summer, I joined the Let It Fly throwing club ran by Carl Patz. He has been very helpful in teaching me the finer points in throwing and teaching me to throw my new favorite toy, the hammer.
This coming season, I am determined to come into the season stronger and more skilled to continue my improvent as a thrower. I have been told by many of my current and past coaches that I am one of the hardest workers they have ever seen and very coachable. I am prepared to make a huge improvement this season in my distances and hope to get my shot to 38' and my discus to 110' by Sectionals. I am also excited to continue to throw the hammer for Coach Patz next summer in an attempt to go to Nationals.
