Personal Statement
Running has been a part of my life ever since I was 13, and I could not be more excited to take my running a step further. I never thought I could compete at a collegiate level, but now that it is a very real possibility, I have never been more motivated. I believe that competing at a collegiate level will help me discover more about myself and will ultimately change my life.
Since my freshman year, I have shaved nearly four minutes off of my 5k time, and almost a minute and a half off of my 3200 m time. These accomplishments make me realize that I can do much more under different circumstances, and it gets me very excited to see what else I can overcome and improve on the race course or track. I am a hard worker, and when I have set my mind to something, very little can slow me down. Being a team captain has shown me how easy it is to be selfless and to put others needs before yours. I lead by example and try my hardest to help those so they can accomplish great things.
I manage schoolwork and running so that they do not end up interfering . I realize that running a PR will not help me get an A in the classroom. I study hard to help keep my grades impressive, and I tend to manage my time very well. I am always working to raise my GPA so I have something to be proud of outside of my athletics.
I always try to make practice fun and exciting, and if I see that one of my teammates is upset, I give them my attention so they can feel better. Being the clown on the team is something that I can say I am proud of, because making such an exhausting sport exciting and fun is not always an easy task. Making friends and memories that will last a lifetime is something that has always made happy about running. Eventually moving on from my current running family to another running family is something that would scare anyone, but I am very excited to start the next chapter in my life and to see where my legs will take me.
