Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Taylor Quick and I’m a junior at Assumption High School. I started my high school career at West High School and soon realize that I needed to challenge myself academically and athletically. I transferred 3/4 of the way through my freshman year to Assumption. I have always wanted to run at the collegiate level and felt that this was the course that could help take me there. With this transfer came some challenges. No longer was I the fastest runner on the team, I also had to sit out 90 school days from varsity running. I knew that the training that I was receiving and the new competition was only going to make me a better runner and a stronger person. The silver lining for my sophomore year of cross country was if we made it to state as a team, I was going to be eligible to run. This did not happen, as we finished fourth, missing state by seven points. This crushed me, as I knew, if I would have been able to run we would’ve qualified. All the hard work that I put in and not being able to run was hard to swallow. My coaches did take notice however, and rewarded me by naming me captain for the 2018 cross country season. This was an honor and a privilege to have my coaches recognize what I had gone through and the work and leadership that I displayed.
Track season started and all of my positive efforts fell to the side as I suffered a calf injury during practice early in the season. I was going to physical therapy three times a week and doing what I could in practice hoping that I would be ready for the season. I missed out on over a month of practice and wasn’t sure how my season would go. At the district meet I was able to run a 2:26 PR split which qualified for the state meet in the 4 x 800 relay. We ended up finishing 14th at state meet for our relay, and 7th overall as a team. I am looking for to the 2018 cross country season with my personal goals of qualifying for the state meet.
I am looking forward to the next two years of my career in high school as I work towards my ultimate goal of running at the collegiate level. I filled my strong will, desire and work ethic will get me there and allow me to succeed at my highest level.
