Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Antonea Carson, and my passion is track and field. I began to run my 7th grade year and I have stuck with it ever since. I started out competing in running events along with hurdles-my 8th grade year I was City League champ in the 75m hurdles- and I have evolved into a multiple event athlete. I now am able to compete in middle distance events along with 300m hurdles, 100m hurdles, sprints, long jump, javelin, shot put, and discus. I go to the largest high school in Kansas, Wichita East High School, which is a school of 2,400 students. I have been running varsity track since my freshman year. East competes as a 6A school. I started throwing javelin my sophomore year and I have been on a steady route of improvement since then. I competed at my regional meet, winning 2nd place, and at my state meet, winning 6th. I began shot put in the middle of my junior year track season and won 6th place at my regional track meet. I also began discus at the end of my 2013 track season and won 7th place at regionals. My goal in track is to steadily improve with each meet and to win. I plan on improving enough to place top five in the 2014 state track meet in all of my events. I hope to be able to run on a competitive college team as a heptathlete while pursuing a major in social work and pre-law. In my family we stress the "student" in "student-athlete". While I would love to run in college, I also want to be able to get my degree in social work in order to go to law school. I also want to be able to continue my community services while running and getting an education.
