Personal Statement
I’ve played several sports during my childhood – soccer, hockey, and track – and the one constant has been my speed. I’ve never had any real training, but I could rely on my natural speed in every sport. In youth hockey, when I played on boys 14 & under and 18 & under teams my speed was my advantage that overcame my slight 5’2” stature and my slim 110 pounds.
I started running track in the eighth grade when a friend asked me to join our school's track team. I didn't really know at the time that I would be good at it and enjoy it so much. This is my 4th year running and I would love to continue in college. Over the last four track seasons, I have been able to use that speed to achieve a varsity letter in each of those years culminating this current season with an 12-0 individual record in 200m and 400m races. I am just beginning to develop my stride winning the Catholic Central League Championship in the 400m race with a time of 60.44 and a new Arlington Catholic High School record.
As a student athlete I have worked hard to raise my GPA this year to a 3.19/4.00. Outside of school I am a volunteer in Stoneham Youth Hockey’s Learn-to-Skate hockey program performing everything from signing skaters in to setting up the on-ice activities to providing instruction and a helping hand to our youngest skaters. I volunteer approximately 75 hours per hockey season and have been involved with the program for 6 seasons.
I want to attend a college where I can reach my potential in track. I want to work with a coach that will provide me with the tools to help me become the best runner I can be. I want to study Athletic Training so that I can learn to help athletes become stronger, avoid injury, and continue playing the sports they love.
