Personal Statement
I came into the running game a little later than most other student althetes. As a sophomore starting out in a new sport, I became engulfed with the need to better my time in the 5k race. This determination led me to the top spot on the varsity cross country team and the Coaches' Award. My relationship with my coach is very important to me, and I know that if I do what she says my times will only improve. During the indoor and outdoor seasons of track I became a very versitle athlete. I was a reliable finisher in any event, distance or hurdles, that the coaches needed me to compete in for a particular meet. I have placed and earned the All-Star Conference title in the 1000m, 4x800m, and in the 400m hurdles. I have also achieved this title in cross country.
Besides running I enjoy getting involved in my school. I feel that since they have given me so many opportunities that I should give back to them. One of my favorite clubs that I participate in is Campus Ministry. I love reading at the school liturgies and raising awareness for the different charitable causes that we provide for each month. I was also involved in a student run fashion show, Catwalk4Cancer, where all proceeds went to cancer research. Being a leader is important to me and I get to do so through the Student Ambassadors Program. I am able to give tours to new families and help host numerous events for my school. However one of my proudest achievements is my membership in the National Honors Society. Getting good grades in school is one of my highest priorities. My favorite subject in school is math, and I also enjoy history.
I have always identified myself through my athletics, and I am my best self when I am competing against others. However what I most enjoy about running is that you are competing against yourself. You can not blame anyone else if your performance in a race is not up to standard, it is up to you to push yourself. Running has helped to shape me into the person that I am today.
