Personal Statement
As a Messalonskee High school athlete, I am very limited to how I can practice. My school does not have a track or any equipment to practice on. As a pole vaulter, I am asked to vault into a sand pit that is really dirt dug up from the ground, or high jump mats. At the level I am jumping, I am unable to use either of those because it is extremely dangerous. In that case I am asked to go to another school to practice, but do to the lack of school money, I can only make it over there once a week. I feel that I have a lot more potential than what I am able to show due to the lack of practicing I get. If I were able to join your team, I could show you the potential I have. I am interested in becoming an athletic trainer. Thank to our pristine track conditions, I am always in the athletic office getting ice. While I am in there, I see not only our athletic trainer help athletes with their injures, but I also see the encouragement he brings to hurt, annoyed athletes who just want to be out practicing. I would love to be able to carry that positive attitude to another school and share it with other athletes. Outside of track, I am also involved in many clubs. I have joined key club, yearbook and student council. Being part of Key club has taught me to think of others needs. I do about 60 hours of volunteering throughout the year and I have really learned a lot of life lessons from it. I have realized that I am very fortunate and really appreciate what I have and am thankful for all of it, even the little things. It has also taught me that sometimes you have to put others needs before yours. Through student council, I have learned how to be a leader and step outside of my comfort zone. I never thought I would be in front of the whole school giving a speech, but never say never. It has shown me that sometimes you have to step outside your box and try new things. Between track and all of the communities I have joined, I have learned to never give up, shoot for what your believe in and trust yourself.
