Personal Statement
What makes me stand out from all the other athletes trying to be recruited? I may be small, but my voice and actions speak louder than most would expect. For starters, I am very coachable. When a coach gives me directions on what I need to do, I follow each and every word they shared. When a coach instructs me to change how I am running, race strategy, or any other input, I listen carefully and apply. I strive on becoming stronger and faster.
Hard work beats talent when talent does not work hard." I am very hard working, and I possess great leadership skills. When I am in the middle of a workout or race, and my body is in a lot of pain, I always think to myself "It's now or never Becca, pain is temporary but regret is forever." I like not only to push myself past my comfort zone, but also my teammates so our team becomes better as a whole. My leadership skills do not last only during a race or workout though. I like to help out new or younger girls on the team whenever I can, especially before or after a workout/race by giving them tips and strategies on what can help them become better athletes. My leadership skills extend beyond the cross country course and track. I am an active leader in many school, church, and community orgnanizations.
Physical ability is not all that a coach will see in me. My athletic ability does not define who I am as a human being. My character does, and I would describe myself as being a very colorful person. My perspective of the world is everything that is created is good. Everyone and everything has goodness in them, you just need to be kind and respectful in order to see that goodness. It is in giving that we receive, and being kind and just to others is very important. Staying true to myself however, I hold above everything.
Finally, the most important aspect college coaches look for is the academics, and how I perform in the classroom. I love learning, and I always apply myself 110% in the classroom. Grades are a key factor in determining where I can go to college. I actively participate in class by asking questions, interacting with my peers, and my teachers. I am very comfortable reaching out to teachers for additional help, clarification, or support when needed. My hope is to find a college that challenges me academically, athletically, and personally.
