Freshman year of high school, I signed up for outdoor track on a whim, and I very quickly discovered my love for the sport. I was previously a soccer player so all I knew was team sports and scoring as many goals as you can, which is why I grew to appreciate track so much; it has both a team and individual aspect and there are so many more opportunities to improve besides scoring more goals and having better footwork. The uplifting and dedicated environment of the track community is one that outcompetes any other sport, and I hope to continue to be a part of it throughout college! Just like academics, I love the satisfaction of putting in the work and getting positive results. Freshman year, our team did not have any girls competing in 400 hurdles, and I was down to fill the void and try to score us some points. I got to work closely with my super knowledgable coach, trained with him everyday, and adored the difficulty and competition of this race. I ended up placing 6th at all-states freshman year, and continued to train through indoor and outdoor seasons sophomore year, improving my form and fitness, and ended the season with the accomplishment of winning the all-state title. In addition to individual events, I also love competing in the relays. Freshman year, I filled in as the third leg of the 4x100 relay team for a mid-season meet, and right away, my coaches and I knew that relays were going to become a part of my event list. I ended up continuing with the relay team into states and all-states, where we ended up winning both! This victory was a first for our school, and this exhilarating experience was one that I wanted to relive again and again. Now entering indoor season of junior year, I am so excited to take on the honor of team captain, and help lead my team into the new season!
