Personal Statement
My name is Janel McCarty and for the past four years I have run track for Blackstone Valley Tech. When I first began running I had no idea that I had found more than a sport, but also a new passion. Track has taught me valuable skills that is take with me everyday. During my sophomore year season I lost my position on the 4x100 relay team and I was devastated. However, instead of giving up I poured all my energy into high and long jump and pushed myself to excel at practice and meets.
I believe that in order to succeed as a student athlete I must be disciplined, determined, and persevering in the classroom and on the field. Some of my greatest accomplishments have occurred off the track such as becoming a member and officer of the National Honors Society, Student Ambassador, and continuing to excel in AP classes. This year, like every year previous, I have set my goals very high so that I can push myself even harder. I plan on high jumping at least 5 feet 8 inches and long jumping at least 18 feet. Once I reach these goals I'm going to continue to set the bar higher for myself.
It is very important to me to be able to work with coaching staff who want to see me succeed and will push me to do better. Without my coaches, I am certain that I wouldn't have reached such a high level of success. Having the opportunity to work with coaches who show the same desire and passion that I do and are willing to go the extra distance with me. I look forward to my last year running in high school and have high expectations for myself going onto college.
