Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Madeline Ray. I started running track in 7th grade and immediately fell in love with the sport. Last year I ran the 4 by 800 relay at the state finals, but I know that my career in running did not stop with this outstanding relay and my track career is not over. By participating in the relay, it has made me realize how much potential I really have and has pushed me to reach higher in my goals, instead of being content with just being average. This year I aspire to qualify for the open 400 individual in the Division 1 Michigan High School State Championships, but my ultimate goal is to run track at the collegiate level. I am a natural leader and was awarded with the Coach's Award at my school in recognition of this quality for the past season.I also received the varsity MVP award for the 2014 season. I am always willing to learn new techniques and to run any event suggested by my coach, in order expand my horizons and grow as a runner. I believe I am different from other recruits in the work ethic that I posses, I am always looking forward to going to practice and the hard workouts that come with it. I will never back away from a challenge because it seems to difficult. My academics also make me a stand-out recruit, as I am able to balance being a Varsity athlete year round (I am also a state level competitive cheerleader) with my academics. Where other people may falter in their grades, I have maintained a 3.5 un-weighted GPA through out the past few years and am working extremely hard so that when I graduate I have at least a 3.6. I hope you can see my passion for the sport and the desire I have to continue into my college career.
