Personal Statement
I started running track when I was in seventh grade; It was a shot in the dark considering I played softball up until then. I found something intriguing about it. I started hurdling right away, but I did not start pole vault until I was in eighth grade. The past two years running track in high school have been phenomenal. I fall in love with the sport more and more every day. Nothing can describe the adrenaline rush as I am soaring over the bar, running hurdles, or waiting for the hand off. I love the fact that you get out of this sport as much as you put into it. You cannot ride on somebody else's success in track; you have to individually work hard at it. That is what I found out about myself through track. I devote so much time into track: staying after practice to work on pole vault and hurdles, going to camps throughout the year, and conditioning. I have learned to be independent and confident. I run against a very talented hurdler, so consequently, I often times get overlooked and put in her shadow. But, she is always encouraging and I push myself to follow in her footsteps. My family and the Lord have had a tremendous influence on who I am. I do everything in Jesus' name and he is a major part in my life. My family has taught me to work hard, be persistent, and be kind. Many of my unique qualities come from them. I am eager to learn, coachable, hard-working, determined, and a leader. I do not follow the crowd; I stick to what is right. I work very hard in school. My grades come first; I am a student before an athlete. As of 5 years ago, Valedictorian and Salutatorian was replaced with "Senior Scholars".The top 10 percent of the class is based on GPA and test scores. My original goal was to be Valedictorian, but now, it is to be apart of the Senior Scholars. My goal is to maintain at 4.0 and receive a 1350 on my SAT.
