Personal Statement
I'm Tamea McKelvy and I began playing sports in the 6th grade. I played basketball for 3 years at Bradford Academy in Southfield, Michigan and we went undefeated and won the Charter School Conference Championship in my 8th grade year. I began running track and long jump in the spring of 2011. That same year I qualified for AAU Junior Olympics for the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and long jump as a member of the Detroit Pal track program. In 2013 and 2014 I was the State of Michigan AAU 100m dash and long jump champion for my age group. I currently attend Oak Park H.S. in Oak Park Michigan where I run cross country and track. As a freshman I medaled in the Michigan High School Division 1 State Championship in the 100m, 200m dash, 4x100m and 4x200m relay as my teammates and I won the championship for Oak Park h.s. I am also an honor roll student and currently carry a 3.6 grade point average which I'm trying to improve upon. Academics are very important to me as a student athlete. I love track and want to run on the college level and I think that I would be a great addition to a college program because I have passion, drive and experience. I compete nationally indoor as well as outdoor when I travel the country with Motor City Track Club and my high school team. I am also a great team member, giving support and encouragement to my teammates. I have an excellent coaching staff that I work with almost on a daily basis and great family support, who cheers me on academically and in my dreams to run track at the next level.
