Personal Statement
My name is Shannon McGrath. I am a sophomore at Brighton High School, in Brighton Michigan. I have been competitively running since joining Girls on the Run when I was ten years old. I am a very diverse sprinter running the 60, 100, 200, and 400 meter individual as well as the 4X100, 4X200, and 4X400 relay. I am a highly motivated runner with a great work ethic for my conditioning and practices.
As A freshmen, I ran varsity in all of my events. My freshmen times qualified me for States, however a slight injury prevented me from participating. As a sophmore, I qualifyed for states not only by place, but also by time. I ran the 200 and the 800 relay at states.I won conference and placed 2nd at regionals in the 200 as well.
Currently I am taking the Top Dog Athletic leadership program at Brighton High School. This program is an invite only program. Our athletic Director selects only a few athletics from all of our sports teams to take this class. The class is designed to teach leadership skills both on and off the track. I am also an ambassador to the incoming freshmen classes, helping guide them and adjust to transition from middle school to high school. The ambassador program is another program that you must be selected by the teachers and principal to be a part of.
One of my strengths as a runner is that I thrive on setting and achieving personal goals. I feel this quality transfers into every aspect of my life and helps me be a much more rounded athlete, student, and person.
I want to Major in Psychology in college while running for and helping to lead a track program to its highest potential.
