In my earlier childhood years, many adults used to comment on how tall I was. While I certainly stood out among other kids, I wasn't so sure this was a good thing at the time.
In 8th grade, I joined the middle school track team and a coach suggested I try high-jump because I was tall. I took his advice and suddenly it all began to come together for me. After beginning to understand the mechanics I found that I could jump, my height was an asset, and loved every minute doing it.
I soon won a number of school meets and qualified for the Oakland County Middle School Championships. I joined the Stoney Creek HS Track and Field team in my freshman year and I found an indoor track club and qualifyied for the 2023 Michigan Indoor Track Series State Championships.
As a freshman, my coaches helped me work on my form and in my second Varsity high school outdoor meet I was thrilled to break the freshman record (5'0 at my first meet) and set a new SCHS school record with a 5'2 PR jump. I was also able to explore other events such as the 100M dash and 4X100 relay where I have begun to develop my skills as a first heat and 'A-team' relay Varsity runner. The 200 and long jump are other interesting events for me and I hope to try them in seasons to come.
In the 2023 summer/AAU outdoor club season, I was able to work on my forma and compete at a number of exciting events including Nike Outdoor Nationals at Hayward Field and Junior Olympics held at Drake University. These were great learning experiences for me in learning how to manage high-pressure major events.
In August 2023, I transferred to Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, MI as a Sophomore to focus on academic opportunities while working to compete and grow in my new school's highly competitive track and field, cross-country, and basketball team.
I know I have a lot to learn in the next few seasons and about what more exactly college athletics might mean for me. Ultimately, after college I hope to study to become a veterinarian and be a passionate caregiver to animals.
So, right now, my vision of being a collegiate athlete involves being part of a strong team with a successful women's high jump discipline while pursuing a first-class life sciences degree at a larger campus, highly-respected university.
