Personal Statement
Some of my earliest childhood memories are little snapshots of track meets and community races that include blue ribbons, big smiles, and lots of support from my family. I have been competing in track programs since elementary school, and I have been fortunate enough to compete at competitive levels for most of my running career. In 8th grade, I joined my school's varsity team and I ran a 60.6 400m at the end of the season at the sections meet. In 9th grade, I suffered from a quadricep injury and could not compete for most of the season, and in 10th grade I switched high schools which made me ineligible to compete in varsity sports for a year. During my junior year, I tried to make up for lost time by being all conference, section champ, and academic all state. I was also able to anchor some relays with my fantastic teammates. I am looking forward to running and competing with all of them as a track captain next school year.
I want to run in college because I am a highly competitive person and I like to work hard in everything that I do. It relieves any stress that builds up from other activities and gives me time to feel accomplished and connected to my classmates. My future goals are to work for the CIA or the FBI somehow, and I want to pursue a degree in political science or economics in college before going on to get my law degree. I am incredibly loyal to my teammates and the people around me, and I always want to put 100% of my energy into the group's success, even if I am not the primary beneficiary of the reward. College can seem like a daunting hurdle to overcome in terms of finding the right community. Having some sort of team to surround myself with is the best way I can imagine adjusting to living away from home for the first time, and I hope that I can put in as much value as I get out. Thank you for your consideration!
