Hava Turner '17 Recruiting Profile

Hi!  My name is Hava Turner and I’m a member of the class of 2017 at Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, Missouri.  I’ve been involved in sports most of my life.  I started playing basketball in 3rd grade and participating in track and field not long after that.  Both sports quickly rose to the top of my favorites list and it became hard to find the time to do both.  So, right before middle school I made a hard decision, and dropped track to focus on basketball.
 
All of the hard work in basketball paid off and earned me the starting point guard position for my high school varsity basketball team as a freshman.  The team did really well and I gained a lot of confidence on the court.  As a freshman, I also competed at the varsity level in track after being away from the sport for almost 4 years.  I made it to the state championships and medaled in two events. 
 
After two years of successfully competing in high school sports, I’ve learned a lot about hard work, facing adversity, determination, leadership and setting goals.  And I’ve figured out that track and field really makes me happy.  I worked really hard and had a fantastic sophomore year on the track which included 4 medals at the MSHSAA State Championships (1st in the 4x200, 2nd in the 4x400, 4th in the 100, and 8th in the 200), 2 medals at the Great Southwest Classic (3rd in the 4 x 100, 7th in the 4 x 200) and 1 medal at the AAU Nationals (3rd in the 4 x 100). 
 
When I’m not competing, I’m usually focused on film, video and cinema.  I’ve been a member of network broadcast groups since the start of middle school and currently I am the Announcements coordinator for our high school broadcast group.  Last school year, I won the Video of the Year award for the state of Missouri.  I plan to major in film and cinema during college and want to go on to have a career in that industry.
 
I’m looking for a school that fits me that will allow me to focus on both of my passions, track and field and film/cinema.  I want to be a part of a track and field program that helps me grow as an athlete and student.  I have taken multiple honors and AP classes as a high school student.  I want to continue to be challenged in the classroom, as well as on the track.
