When I first started track in 7th grade I assumed it would just be another sport to do to pass time until the next one came along. I was a multi-sport athlete involved in volleyball, basketball and softball and I enjoyed every one of them. As I got older I started to understand what I was really good at and during my 8th grade season I excelled in sprints. My coaches looked at me as a leader and would have me help coach the girls during practices. I placed 1st in the All City meet in the 100m. My freshman year I worked even harder and ended up breaking two school records, medaled at state and set a team PR with a 25.46 split in the 4x200m and a 11.65 split in the 4x100m.
Staying active and in shape during the off season is just as important to me as when track is in season. I spend time in the weight room at school and do year round workouts to continue getting stronger. I started wrestling this year as well and my coaches were more than impressed with my strength and ability to quickly pick up the sport. I have a positive record and have loved challenging my body and my strength in a new way.
My academic goal for the rest of high school is to take dual enrollment classes focused on business and trade skills so that I can graduate with an elevated GPA. After graduation, my goal is to further my academic and athletic career by continuing track at the collegiate level. I know that is a big responsibility and I'm going to do everything necessary to reach that goal.
My collegiate academic plan is to major in agricultural business to help me succeed as a business owner after college graduation.
I have always had a blue collar mindset and have never shied away from hard work, something that both my coaches and bosses would strongly agree with. In addition to sports and school, I have worked on a farm and farmer’s market doing both manual labor and customer service. My relentless work ethic and desire to succeed in everything I try is what I’m most proud of, and those qualities have served me well as an athlete.
