My hope is to run cross country/track at the collegiate level that best fits my skill levels. I have been a varsity runner for my high school cross country and track teams since my 7th grade year. This year, I was the only woman runner from my school to make the state meet. Also, I was second in our conference meet. I have continually improved in my times and have shown that I am a dedicated athlete. I usually put in extra time and workouts outside of school. I am also friends with other top area runners and we often try to help each other out in getting stronger and better by running/training together. I have been attending sports camps during summer for the sports that I am currently involved. Since the summer of 2014, I participate in a strength and conditioning program offered by the varsity sports training department at the University of Minnesota-Duluth for area high school athletes. During the summer, I am there Monday to Thursday, and during the school year, I attend the program two nights a week after my regular sports practices. Besides running, I joined the nordic ski team at my high school in 8th grade. I went from being a novice skier in 8th grade to a an all conference skier in 9th grade and narrowly missed being a participant at the state meet. As an 8th grader I was all conference in cross country and all conference in the 800 in the track season. Prior to being involved in my high school's teams, I was a competitive figure skater for the Duluth Figure Skating Club. I skated from the age of 4 until I was 14 years old. For a couple of years, I did both school sports and skating. I skated 6 days a week for 2-3 hours during the school year, and during the summer, I skated 5 days a week for 2-3 hours along with off ice training programs. I participated in many skating competitions, and often participated in the state competition. I usually placed in the top 10 of skaters at the state level with the highest place being a third place finish. I, however, enjoy running and decided to concentrate on this sport. Also, I considered that my classes at school were going to require more time and I decided that I need to concentrate on this area too. I have been involved on the student council this year, and I have hopes that if I continue to study hard I will be able to be a member of the National Honor Society. My coaches of any of my sports and my conditioning coaches will tell you that I am very dedicated to my sports and and always trying to improve my performances. I am competitive and always want to get stronger and faster. I listen to my coaches and willing to try things that they have suggested. I know the hard work that is needed to be a college athlete and student. My brother was valedictorian of his high school class and entered a top academic college where he has been a member of the basketball and track teams.
