Personal Statement
My name is Katie Heilman and I am finishing my sophomore year at Watertown Mayer High school in Watertown, MN. Since I was young, sports have been part of my life and part of who I am. I have always been taught to push myself and dream big. It's important to me to open myself up to opportunity, because it is what you do with those opportunities that define who you are.
I am a three sport athlete and I truly enjoy what I do! I love having the opportunity to make lasting relationships while improving my skills. I have been playing varsity soccer since 7th grade. I began starting right forward in 8th grade and I continue to thrive at that position. I have been competing in varsity gymnastics for three years now, and I have qualified for state twice. I train year round and I embrace all the sacrifice it takes, because I know that it’s worth it. I started running varsity track in 8th grade and I have had a number of accomplishes since then. I have been to the MN State Track meet for the last two years. Last year I achieved the state title for triple jump, and broke my high school record. I strive to be involved in as many clubs and camps as I can for all of my sports, because I am eager to fine tune my performances.
I am also actively involved in FFA, 4-H, and my church youth group. I believe that it is important to be known as a good person and good role model for others. My faith is important to me and I want to be the best I can through Christ. I want people to look at me and say “wow she’s different, but a good kind of different.”
I am looking for a college that challenges me in both athletics and academics. If I am given the opportunity, I will continue to push myself and my teammates to represent my school with pride and integrity. I have a passion to lead by example and build a trusting relationship with my coaches, teammates and friends. This relationship will challenge them to reach their potential not only in sports but in their daily lives.
