My name is Maya Stanley, and I am a rising senior at Northside high school in Jacksonville, NC. I am a four sport athlete (volleyball, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and softball). I enjoy playing all of these sports, but I love playing softball. My freshman year, I made my school's varsity softball team, and earned the Rookie of the Year Award. My sophomore year, I was lead pitcher, and I led my team to a 3rd place conference win. I earned 1st team All-Conference, and 2nd team All-Area. My junior year, my team finished 4th in conference. I earned All-Conference and All-Area.
Freshman, sophomore, and junior year, I played other sports. Freshman year (2014-2015), I was on the varsity indoor track and field team, and outdoor track and field team. I earned All-State Athlete status by placing 4th in discus at the Outdoor Track and Field State Championship. Freshman year, I also played junior varsity volleyball, and basketball.
Sophomore year (2015-2016), I was captain of my junior varsity volleyball team. In indoor track and field, I placed 3rd and PR'd in Shot Put at the Indoor Track and Field State Championship. In outdoor track and field, at the Regional meet, I placed 1st and PR'd in both Discus and Shot Put. At the Outdoor Track and Field State Championship, I placed 2nd in Discus, earning All-State Athlete status, and placed 6th in Shot Put.
Junior year (2016-2017), I played Varsity volleyball. I also was on the Varsity indoor and outdoor track and field teams. I earned a All-State Athlete status in both. I was the State Champion in discus at the 2A Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
I work very hard to maintain my grades while participating in these sports. I maintained on Honor Roll and Principal's List throughout my freshman, sophomore, and junior years. My goal for college will be to work hard to obtain a college degree in social science, while also being a stellar athlete. My ultimate goal is to be a pediatrician.
You should choose me to be on your team because of the qualities I possess. I am a hard worker, a good listener, and a quick learner. I am a competent leader, and a team player. My fellow team mates trust me and feel comfortable coming to me for help or guidance, and I feel comfortable going to them for help as well. I believe these qualities separate me from other athletes. Another quality that separates me from others is my strong work ethic. I have worked hard, and will continue to work hard to get to my absolute best in athletics, and most importantly academics.
