Personal Statement
Coming off of my basketball season freshman year, I was in pretty good shape. I was training with a year round runner and my coach was tirelessly working to make us better. Our 4*800 team beat our school record and then our own record on five separate occasions. We went to States, MOCs, and New Englands together. In the 3200, I went to states and MOCs but missed the New Englands cut-off by one place. About halfway through the season, I qualified for the NBN freshman 3200. When I went to North Carolina for New Balance Nationals I achieved second, just two seconds away from the first place runner and 4 seconds away from our school record.
In college, I want to contribute to the school in any way that I can. The difference between me and a lot of other athletes is that I do not want to settle for second again. I always work to be the best and work my hardest, whether it be in practice or a meet. Even if I am having an off day, with my competitive nature, I don't let it get to me. Academically, sports has never hindered my ability to succeed. Currently I am one of 20 sophomores in our schools National Honor Society and I was voted to be an officer as a sophomore. With my other varsity sports, I was named captain of both the soccer and basketball teams as a sophomore. I always try to find the perfect balance between school and sports.
Being a three season athlete can be challenging but it is also rewarding. You meet so many amazing people and friends. I truly believe that sports is one of the best ways to prepare for "the real world". Sports teach you so many life lessons as well as help you find yourself. Although it sounds trite, I whole-heartedly believe it to be true.
