Anais Gonzalez '16 Recruiting Profile

I am currently a senior at The Lawrenceville School and captain of the Varsity Girls Cross Country team. I am extremely passionate about running, especially long distances, and as captain of the team, I love to support, motivate and encourage my fellow teammates by being an example on and off the field.
As for my personal experience, I come from a small farm town called Hanford, which resides in the Central Valley of California. Growing up, I ran for a traveling AAU and USATF track and cross country club called the Valley Coyotes. While a Coyote, I ran many track & Cross Country meets at the local, state and even national level.  My freshman year at Sierra Pacific High School was very special for me and the school.  It was the first year in the history of the school that they offered Cross Country. That year we became the Valley Champions and I was appointed Captain and MVP of the team. I led the cross country team to a Valley Championship and to participate at the State championships in California. The girls cross country team was the first team in the history of the high school to win the Valley Championships!
Going into the end of my sophomore year in California, I noticed that my public high school was not challenging me in regards to my academics and my running progression; thus, I worked hard and applied to a boarding school called The Lawrenceville School which is in New Jersey.  I was honored by being accepted and received a full-ride scholarship! Being at Lawrenceville has helped me progress and further develop my running capabilities, in addition to my leadership and educational skills. During my first year at Lawrenceville, I managed to be the only sophomore to make the cuts of the Varsity team. That year, we won Mapls and states. My current PR is 20:05 in the 5k and I am working diligently to break 20 minutes this fall.
