Personal Statement
Since the day I could walk, I loved to run. School work has sometimes been hard for me, but when I get on a track I know exactly what to do. I attend Mary McDowell Friends School in Brooklyn NY, a small LD school. I have run varsity cross country and track since freshman year and have been the number one girl runner each year. For me, the longer the distance, the better I perform.
School is something that has always been a struggle for me because I have a learning disability. Having a learning disability has made me a very hard worker. Because of this, throughout high school I have maintained an A average and won the scholar-athlete award both freshman and sophomore year.
In academics and in running, I work as hard as possible and that has brought me success. I have improved tremendously and my times have been getting better every race, shaving almost three minutes off my times this year. As a sophomore, I ran in the high 23's for 5k. As a junior, I ran 21:19 in the Saratoga Springs Junior Olympic Regionals. Because I am such a hard worker and I have little formal training, I know that I am nowhere near my potential.
When it comes to coaching and working with others, many times I have been told by coaches and teachers that they love me because I am so easy to work with and very coachable. I take the responsibility seriously since it is a commitment not only to myself but a commitment to the other runners on the team and the coach.
