Personal Statement

I fell in love with running in 4th grade when I broke the school 200m record at field days.  I was hooked by the time I broke the record the following year in 5th grade.   At 11 years old I participated in my first club season where I was fortunate enough to get to run along side and train with some of the best high school runners in my area.  Running along side these amazing role models helped me learn more about the sport and taught me how to not focus on holding back because I had no friends on the team, but how to push forward, get comfortable, and make friends while doing something I loved.

I joined my high school varsity team as a 7th grader.   In my first year my 4x1 relay won County Championships.  In the two years since I have found myself becoming more of a leader.  I enjoy pushing myself to always strive for my best and encouraging my teammates to give their best.

As my high school year has continued I've found that sacrifice is a key component to being able to be a successful track athlete. I've been put in many events I may not love to do like the 4x400 meter relay, or the triple jump. But when I put aside my bias against the events I got farther than I thought I could have. For my sectional track meet of the 2022 indoor season I came second overall for Triple Jump with a jump of 36'7. I sacrificed for my team, by stepping down and not running a 55, so we could get the points to win the sectional meet. And for my outdoor 2021 sectional meet I sacrificed for my team and ran the 4x400 meter relay, which helped my team finish second, and ultimately helped us jump back up to the second team high score overall.
