Personal Statement
I began track and field in 1st grade through a youth athletic association and my passion for running has continued since then. Even as a child, I was always the first to try new events and am currently a versatile track and field athlete. My main focus is cross country and mid-distance events, specifically the 800m and 400m, yet I also have competed many times in high jump and have competed in a heptathlon. I am always one to strive towards improvement. I always tell myself that I can do better or that I can push harder, and I have learned to rarely be satisfied.
Although this attribute can sometimes negatively take a hold of me causing stress, my discontent fuels my fiery determination. I'm my harshest critic, which is what pushes me to reach new levels, but am also focusing on being proud each time I put my best effort out there even if the result doesn't fully match my goal. I have earned only A’s and B’s and every class I have taken or take is the most difficult available level. I have oriented my class choices based on both interest and practicality, focusing on my love for science but also taking useful life skill classes such as public speaking. I am looking for a program to fit my passion for running while still balancing a quality academic program.
