Personal Statement

My name is Alexandra Canal. I am 5'9, about 140 pounds, and am a sprinter/hurdler. I started track my sophmore year not expecting anything. However, through hard work, I made it to the Meet of Champions with a PR of 15.9 in the 100 meter high hurdles. I also earned 1st team all conference and was awarded the Most Improved Award for the 2010 spring season. Junior year, I participated in my first season of winter track. I made it to the Meet of Champions for the 55 meter hurdles and also went onto the East Coast Relays were I recieved a PR of 8.83. At East Coast relays, I made it past the first round and was one of the top 25 runners there. I recieved 1st team all conference by the Courier Post and was awarded the Most Improved award for the 2010 winter season. At the end of the winter season/start of the spring season I was voted by my teammates and coach as a team captain. I was beyond excited to start my spring season. Unfortunatley, I tore my hamstring at the start of the season. Reinjuring it several times, I was never able to return to the track and compete in the hurdles/long jump. This was very frusterating. However, I still supported by teammates and showed up to every practice/meet. Right now, I partake in therapy 2x a week so that I will be 100% healed by the fall for my senior year. I would love to attend college at Boston College, Georgetown, Harvard, Villanova, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, or Yale. I am mainly looking at the East Coast area but am not limited to just that. I want a middle of the range school (approx. 6,000-9,000 undergraduates) with a high academic level. I am very open to different types of schools!  I would love to major in Communications, Broadcast Journalism, or Business. I am willing to play at all levels and would love to be a part of a college team. I am a very hard worker and hold various leadership positions, not only in athletics, but in school activities as well. Even though I was out my whole junior year, I know that, that will only make me stronger. It will push me to work even harder and show up 10x better for my senior year! This drive to be the best has motivated me ever since I began competing in sports. I am very competetive and know that I will bring something special to any team that I am on.
