Personal Statement
I have been running AAU Track and Field for seven years, and ever since I have had a dream that I could run in the Olympics and become an Olympian myself. I first thought I could reach that goal when I went to the Junior Olympics for the first time --my second year running. I didn't get a medal, but I wanted one so badly I worked hard every year since then. My goal was finally accomplished when I won my first medal in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I --as a 13 year old was ranked 4th in the nation for High Jump. I strived to get a medal again the next year and got 7th in the nation as a 14 year old in Des Moines, Iowa.
My dream to become an Olympian was fueled even more when I won the Greater Miami Conference (GMC) Championship as a Freshmen, when I won third in the district tournament. Also in the same year I ranked 3rd in the 100M Dash, 4th in the 200M Dash, ranked first in the 400M Relay, third in the 1600M Relay and in the GMC I won first team all-conference in High Jump. In all the accomplishments I was blessed to receive the MVP award and was named Athlete of the Week for Fairfield High School.
Being a good athlete is one thing, but being a good student is another --you can't run or play forever. I currently have a 3.8 grade point average and I plan on bringing the same work ethic at a college level. I want to find a place where I can excel academically and grow athletically. I believe I am a great candidate because I have a good work ethic and I'm not afraid to take the leadership roll if need be. I also believe I have the inner strength to do anything I put my mind to do. Last but not least, I have volunteered at Matthew 25 Ministries, helping give clothes and other things you need in daily life, to people in other countries who might not have been blessed with the things that we have.
