Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Emma Burns. I am currently a senior in high school at Bio-Med Science Academy, a STEM+M school. I am currently involved in cross country and track. I have also been involved with club swimming for 5 years, Hershey track club for two years, and I regularly compete in Triathlons each year. I love the team aspect of running because I love to watch my teams growth along with my growth throughout the season. I also love to encourage my team to be the best we can possibly be. I am also very goal oriented person; for example, in my junior year of cross country I wanted to get sub 21 - which I accomplished with 20:21.20 and for my senior year I want to achieve a time in the sub 20's. Not only am I goal oriented in my athletics, but I also set goals for myself in my academics including getting 4.0s for the rest of my two years in high school. Since my high school, Bio-Med Science Academy, does not have an athletic program I participate in sports through my old school, Rootstown High School. I have a maintained a high GPA while in cross country and track. I am also in National Honor Society due to my excellent academics and volunteer service. I currently volunteer in Relay for Life and Fit Kids, which is a program where I help children learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle through running and nutrition. As well as balancing my academics and my athletics I also am currently a lifeguard at a local wellness center. I love to share my compassion and dedication of the sport of running with others and I hope I can continue my running career in college. While in college I hope to also pursue an education in exercise science or sports management.
