I have been playing sports my whole life. It's part of who I am. I started participating in gymnastics at a very young age. I played league soccer and grew up playing and loving basketball. I honestly believe the long hours of hard work and discipline in sports as a child laid the foundation for my work ethic.
I started running in middle school. My freshman year of high school I threw shot put and discus, and I also played basketball. My sophomore year I decided not to play basketball and fully commit my time to throwing. During the off season, one of the members of the 4x800 team got injured and wasn't able to run. My coach, knowing I ran in middle school, decided to put me on the relay team. I was open to doing anything I could to help the team. Every day after running, I would collect myself and go practice shot put and discus. I worked hard because I knew it would pay off. I qualified for state in Discus and our team qualified for the 3200M Relay. At state, I finished in seventh place with a throw of 115'7", which was about my average for the season. During the 3200M Relay I met my goal of breaking 2:30 and ran a split of 2:29.20. We finished 5th place with a time of 9:59.35.
I am fully open to doing anything to help improve my team. I feel like being both a runner and a thrower has helped prepare me to perform under pressure. Our school doesn't have a throws coach, so what I have learned has come from my brother and dad who both threw in high school, and what I have learned through a few throwing clinics. With some formal training I know I can improve and be an asset for someone's team.
I have maintained a 4.0 GPA and am a member of Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS), The Oklahoma Honor Society and NHS.
My plan for college is to major in Nursing.
