Personal Statement
I became interested in track and field during 8th grade when I discovered I had a talent for running. Before track and field, I played many other sports (basketball, golf, volleyball, soccer, skipping). In spring of 2016, I decided to join my high school track and field team during my freshman year. That summer, I joined the Border City Athletics Club and represented them at the Canadian Youth Nationals in Quebec. Our local Border City Club won bronze in the 4x100m relay against other provincial relay teams. In my sophomore year, I trained with the cross-country team until indoor season with Border City started. I have accomplished many things in my short track career highlighted with individual and team championships. I've consistently lowered my personal best times and broke a 44-year-old SWOSSA record (that was eventually negated due to the wind). I am very new to the sport and have much to learn and I love being coached. With also staying true to my Christian faith, I want to run and become the best athlete I can be, always improving. During my junior year I will begin weight training and training for the 200m and 400m events.
I am passionate about music as well. I enjoy playing the piano and in January of 2018, I will be testing to receive my grade 8 certificate of piano with The Royal Conservatory of Music. Though I have been in the French immersion program since kindergarten, which makes languages my strongest subject, I plan to academically study sciences (specifically biology) in University. I am ready to take my hard work and dedication and apply it to track and field at a collegiate level.
