Personal Statement

My name is Hailey Lewetag, I’m a 5’6 115 lb 16 year old Junior at North Salem High School. I ran varsity in Track at South Salem High School as a freshman and was voted rookie of the year by my peers and coaches. I was 1 of 3 girls who made it to districts finals for our school my freshman year, and was 8th place in the 400m finals.

As I continue running I’m pushing myself to be the best runner and person I can be, and love setting and reaching difficult goals. My sophomore year I decided to also run cross country, and knew it would be a challenge for me as I have always been a sprinter. I was determined to do my best and win or learn (or both) in the process. It was hard, but I was determined and made the varsity team. I was again voted rookie of the year by my teammates and placed 22nd at our districts meet with a PR of 20:50.

After experiencing my first XC season I came into my sophomore track season with the urge to run mid distance. This was my first year in track running anything longer then a 400M, I focused on the 800M and finished 2nd in my Conference and went on to state and ended up finishing in 8th place at the 6A state championship.

Now, in my Junior year I have just wrapped up this cross country season with a new PR of 20:00.8. My team qualified for the State Championship where we finished 10th in the Oregon 6A race.

My family recently moved, shortly after this years cross country season so I am attending a new high school. I will be graduating for North Salem High School in June 2020 where I plan to run both Track this spring as well as cross country & track my senior year. I'm extremely excited about this new change and have big goals in mind for spring 2019.

Running has made me a better leader and teammate, challenging me to become the best student-athlete I can be. I'm very passionate and committed about this sport and I'll continue to do whatever it takes to become one of the best runners in our district and our state.
