Personal Statement
College recruitment is extremely competitive. With millions of smart, talented, eligible athletes, finding the right fit for your team must be quite difficult. However, I believe that I am an excellent candidate for your team, because I am an incredibly hard worker in the classroom, on the track, and in my community.
I am a very strong student, maintaining a solid 4.0 GPA freshman year and finishing in the top 10% of my class. While things do not always come easily for me, I study vigorously and put 110% effort into my schoolwork. I take my education very seriously, and this school year I am enrolled in all honors courses. The past semester I again received straight A's with a 4.27 weighted GPA. I understand the importance and privilege of learning and gaining knowledge.
Just like in academics, I strive to excel in my sport. I started running and jumping competitively for a club when I was only 11 years old, so I already have a strong understanding of the sport. Ever since I won my first Jr. Olympic medal in 5th grade, I knew that I wanted to run and jump for life. Since then, I have become an 8-time Jr. Olympic medalist, and I am a varsity starter on my school and club team. I was one of the biggest point scorers on my high school team, even after being injured for 3/4 of the outdoor season. This indoor season, I was ranked in the top 10 in the state in Long Jump, and I participated in the State Championships, helping my 4x400 relay team to a 5th place finish. This spring season I have helped my team to an almost undefeated record, averaging 18.5 points a meet. I placed 7th in my very competitive district in long jump and 12th at states. I was the second best state performer of the sophomore age group. This summer I will be competing for a club team, and I am training for the AAU Junior Olympics, for which I have qualified in the heptathlon.
Extracurricular activities and a number of leadership positions have helped me to become a great community member and leader, even as a sophomore. I am part of many activities such as the student council class cabinet, peer tutoring, girl up club, key club, cooking for the homeless club, Toastmasters International Youth Leadership Program, and a recurring volunteer at the Network of Victims Assistance Thrift Store.
Track is my passion. It would be a dream come true to be recruited to do something that I absolutely love while gaining a valuable education. I would love to run for a school from any division, preferably on the east coast, and to study my preferred major. I know that one day, that extra rep, lap or set will be worth it, possibly running for your college.
