Personal Statement
Hello my name is Jennifer Iozzi and I am a junior at Cranston High School West in Cranston, Rhode Island. In addition to my college prep courses, I am also enrolled in the Medical Pathways program in the Cranston Area Career and Technical Center at Cranston High School West. Medical Pathways is supplying me with the tools to pursue my goals of being accepted into a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. I am interested in a Division 1, 2, or 3 College or University that can supplement my financial burden in the Northeast. However, I am not opposed to other institutions on the East coast. Being from Rhode Island, I would like to go to a smaller school with a maximum of 13,000 students.
I have just started throwing shot put and the weight throw as of my sophomore year in high school. During the outdoor season, with the addition of playing on the varsity softball team, I threw shot put improving on my personal record of 27’ for indoor to 34’ 8” for outdoor where I placed 5th in the Rhode Island State Meet as well as competed in the New England Championship Meet. Over the summer, I started training much more vigorously to improve my marks in shot put. As of this past indoor season, with the help of my coach and trainer Matt Ellis, I placed 5th in the Rhode Island State Meet as well as 13th in the New England Championship Meet throwing my personal record of 35’ 7”. For this outdoor season I placed 2nd in the State Championship meet earning a PR of 36' 2" and plaed 16th in the New England Chamionship. Also during this outdoor season, I started throwing discus and hammer throwing 86' 2" in disc and 123' 9" in hammer.
Even though I have only just started track and field, I am quickly falling in love with the sport. Since I was little, I have always been involved with sports including softball and karate. I am currently still committed to both sports, and in karate I am a second degree black belt in the midst of training to become a third degree. My competitiveness, commitment, and drive that I have gained from karate transfer over to everything I do including, my studies, track and field, and everyday life.
