Personal Statement
I have had a love of sports for as long as I can remember. At age five, I became part of WOGA (World Olympic Gymnastic Academy) where I fell in love with the intense training and discipline that I had first experienced there. I had become fortunate enough to be in a gym, training alongside two Olympic medalists. Being around these inspiring individuals taught me that with dedication and hard-work ones goals can be achieved. Because of them, and the tough love attitude of the coaches, I had picked up those qualities and still carry them with me today. My Russian gymnastic coach had always given me the mindset of you can always do better and this was the main thing that I brought with me over to the next sport I played, volleyball. I am 5'1. I was a setter in volleyball. This height is not desirable for any volleyball player, none the less, a setter. This set up many obstacles for me to attack, and I did not step down from the challenge but rather, I rose to the occasion. I was put down multiple times, I felt I had to fight harder than any of my competition. I always kept that gymnastics coach in the back of my mind during these times and continued to fight for want I wanted. Time after time I tried to persuade these coaches that I could keep up with the taller players, I had to change opinions of the coaches. This is why I fell in love with track. It is you and the track. Your mark is not an opinion and it doesn't care about your physical status. Still, here in track I have had to work hard to keep up with those taller than me. Through my hard-work and ability to be coached, I have continued to improve each season so far. Therefore, my goals for college is to find a place that will let me continue to improve for as long as I can. If it was not for my past sports, I could not have gotten to where I am today. Because of this, I will forever be grateful for those who pushed me, but also those pushed me down, which allowed me to rise through my hard-work and drive. This crossed over into my academics. I have always taken my studies seriously, but the traits that I learned from sports at a young age helped to enforce my studying habits. I carry a 3.7 GPA and always take pride in my work.
