Personal Statement
My Name is Ryan Roane, and I have been active in track and field since my 7th grade year at Willowwood JH, where I held records in triple jump, long jump and the 200m. I began running for Northwest Flyers Track Club in Houston in March 2013. I worked really hard over the season and made it to the USATF Jr. Olympics in Greensboro, NC. I qualified in the 4x400 relay, triple jump and long jump. After competing at a level of this magnitude, I realized just how much I love this sport and that experience truly set the expectations I have for myself. During the winter months I went to camps being taught by Carl Lewis and Peter Pratt. I competed in the A&M HS Classic indoor meet in both long and triple jump. I placed 7th in triple. I went on to Tomball Memorial HS, where as a Freshman I lettered on the varsity team. I qualified for the Texas Relays placing 7th in triple jump. I made all districts, all area, and placed 2nd at Regionals in the triple jump which qualified me for the State 4A meet. I ended my season placing 6th at State. Track and Field has truly become my life. Everything I do and everything I have ever been taught allows me to believe that I will achieve all that I dream. Track and field is so much more to me than a sport. It's where my heart is. I was told once that anything worth doing is worth doing well. I absolutely believe that. I plan on excelling in my academic studies as well as on the track. I look forward to continuing my education and being a member of a college team, doing what I love, supporting my fellow athletes and competing at the highest level possible. I would like to study sports medicine, physical therapy and continue my dreams of track and field at a school that will allow me to progress and excel in both. To be a part of something you love and to do it well is the most gratifying reward. I am a team player, hard worker and I will never quit. I look forward to my future and I'm ready to win!
