Personal Statement
My name is Danielle Leaks and I am a 5'6" 105 lb. track and field athlete. When I was younger I didn't always love track like I do now. I was a soccer player and that's all I wanted to do. The summer going into my sixth grade year I was thrown into a summer track program, ever since then I have grown to love this sport. Now I am fully committed to track and field. I pride myself in being a hard worker both on and off the track. I keep myself focused on what is important for me to have a prosperous future. I realize that in order to be great I, first, have to be great in the classroom. I've been on the A/b honor roll since I was in elementary. My freshman and sophomore year I got academic all-state. I also received the TTFCA academic all-state award my sophomore year. I shall continue to work just as hard in the classroom my junior and senior year. As a freshman I competed on varsity and made it to regionals in all five of the events I competed in. Those events were the 4x4, 100m, 200m, long jump, and triple jump. I did not make it to state, getting third in the 200 I just missed it. As a sophomore, however, I did compete in the state meet. Running the 200 I placed second by just .02 seconds. That year I only made it to regionals in four of my events, the triple jump, 100m, 200m, and the 4x1. I placed first at the regional meet in the 200m, with a time of 24.52. this time broke the school record which I previously held and was also a PR. I anchored the 4x1 that meet, placing fifth in finals, we broke the school record with a time of 48.75. I am a team player, I compete not only for personal success but team success also. My parents have taught me to not consider myself as the best, to know there is always work to be done. Also to work hard in everything I do in order to be better and to achieve my goals.
