Personal Statement

I am so excited to be in my third year of competing in track and field and am committed to the goals I have starting with setting a new school record in the javelin.  I just achieved that goal at our first official meet of the 2016 season.  I plan  to set the bar high for that record as I continue to improve my marks.  I would LOVE to have the opportunity to continue throwing in college! I am lifting, doing plyometrics and practicing my technique and throws every day.  I was awarded MVP thrower on my track team as well as All-Region and All-State both years I have participated in varsity track.  I am an outgoing team member and I get along with everyone. I do well in school and work hard to improve myself as an individual, both mentally & physically. I take criticism well and am eager to learn.  I want to be a part of a track and field team in college!

  • Alex started throwing the Javelin in June of 2013, her coaches bringing her along slowly so as to not injure her arm. She has a live arm, and has gone from a 5-step to a 7-step and is moving toward a longer approach to use her speed to increase the distance of her throw. She is getting quicker on the runway and has very good form all the way from her approach to her delivery. Her coach thinks she will be a 160-170 ft thrower. He has coached her voluntarily without pay for the past 2 years. The sky is the limit how far she can throw once she gets into a really good weight lifting program. Alex also started throwing the shot put seriously about a year ago. She uses the glide technique and is just starting to get the grasp and feel for the shot quickly. She is a powerful thrower and in time with continued weight lifting we anticipate her throwing in the 40's quite possibly this year. She has also picked up the disc just recently and it is coming along very well, developing quicker than we had hoped. (You can tell her dance experience has benefited her there.) She has very good technique through her hips, good balance and her coach feels like she will be an outstanding hammer thrower in college. Her coach has expressed she is hungry to learn and eager to get better. If you have any questions regarding Alexis, feel free to contact her coach David C. Houle at (801)367-1410 or [email protected]
