Hello—I am a senior with a 3.8 GPA at Sehome High School in Bellingham, Washington.
With Covid, my sophomore and junior school track season consisted of 4 meets and 16 competitive throws. The Bellingham, area has a strong cross country community but a quiet throwing community so my goal this summer was to earn money, keep working out, throwing and finding more track meets to get track meet experience. I found All Comer meets a few hours away in Olympia, Washington that actually had throwers, and was lucky to meet amazing coaches and join the Yelm Throwing Club which led to 2 national meets and a regional meet. (Coach Stovall of Yelm Throwing Club wrote letter of recommendation and I’m including a quote at the end of this intro)
This summer, I was throwing 42/44 with a glide shot, 142/144 in discus. I have 1 hammer throw session under my belt and threw over 100'. I’m squatting about 300lbs for max and cleans are 170lbs, bench is 170lbs.
My other sports have been club soccer until freshman year and I also played on the boy’s football through freshman year of high school. I played offensive line and loved the team camaraderie, games and practices but my dream is to throw for a D1 college and I didn’t want to risk getting injured. I’m including a letter from my high school’s head varsity football coach and my Yelm throwing coach.
It is so good to be back in real classes instead of online! I'm training, working hard in school and this fall I look forward to finding a college throwing program where I can obtain a good education (in business or dentistry) and throw for a team who competes at a high level and has a great culture.
Thank you for your interest!
Dawson Rothenbuhler
'...Dawson, as a raw talent, ranges around 42-44 feet on average in shot as a glider. I believe she will be a mid 50’s thrower in shot by the end of her Freshman year of college, just based on her ability to take and implement coaching to improve technique. If she adds and works speed and technique in the discus she should be in the 150-160 range by the end of her senior year of HS. She has learned basic technique in both the hammer and weight throw and within two sessions was easily over 100’ in hammer and over 35’ in weight throw. Her potential in both of these events is untapped and enormous. During her competition at USATF Junior Olympics in Florida she proved her mental and physical toughness by competing in adverse conditions. No complaints, nerves or mental breakdowns in overwhelming heat, meet mismanagement and Covid delays.
Dawson will be an excellent choice for any program. If you are lucky enough to add her, you’ll get an athlete that knows how to lift, compete, train technique and take coaching. Dawson will get along well with her teammates and will be a strong building block to help strengthen your throwers core. A coach that helps her add speed to her already incredible strength and size will unleash something truly special...'
