Personal Statement
My name is Georgia Glovatsky and I am passionately in love with running. I am also a very non-traditional student. I graduated High School in 2006 and went on to pursue a career as a paramedic. I have worked in the Emergency Services industry for almost eight years and I recently decided to go back to school to pursue my dream of wilderness education. Along the way I discovered running.
I started running seriously about three years ago when I turned twenty-four. There are very accomplished runners in my family so I'm fortunate to have access to excellent coaching. My sister Sarah Crouch (Porter), who runs professionally for Reebok, has trained me for several half marathons and shorter races over the last few years. Last fall, I joined the Mt. Hood Community College cross-country team and had a successful first season winning four of the six races. I ran a 5k personal best of 17:20 at the Portland State Invite and I went on to win the NWAC championship race with a time of 18:10. I am currently training for my first track season where I plan to compete in the 5k and 10k.
I believe I would be a good addition to a running program because of my fierce love and dedication to the sport. I am very self-motivated and I like to motivate and encourage my teammates. I am also relatively new to running and I have several years of improvement in my future. In the three years I have spent running I have been resilient to injury and I take injury prevention seriously. As a student I am equally dedicated and I have worked hard earning my AA degree and maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
I am not the traditional student athlete fresh out of high school. However I believe it is the wisdom, life experience, and work ethic I've gained since high school that makes me a good candidate on any women's team.
