Personal Statement
My name is Morgan Southern, and I aspire to be a high school science teacher. I love chemistry and want to share that passion by teaching it. While taking on my classes, I would love to continue my athletics. I love both soccer and track; I love growing as an athlete. I'm very hardworking and dedicated. I'm willing to give everything in me to become better, and try to stay open-minded to my coaches judgements. If judged on something, I work until I get it down correctly. I have heart, and it's helped me become a stronger athlete, though I'm still growing. I'm different from most girls because of the passion I have, and my desire to push myself to be better with every step I take. I feel like I have so much more growing and learning to do, and would love to take it on in college.
I started running track in middle school because I've always enjoyed running. The first thing I learned was how to lose, honestly, and how to accept that I can't always get first. Once I matured and really committed to it though, I learned what steps I need to take to drop time. I have many goals, but my biggest would be to get out of the 50 seconds for 300mh this year. Last year I got my PR at 50.26, and then dropped the event for the year. I dropped it because of an injury to my soleus muscle, and wanted my relay teams to still make it to the state track meet. When I dropped 300mh, I was ranked 6th in the state, so it's also my goal to place at states in them this year. If for some reason I had to give them up again to help the relays I would, though. I'd rather 4 girls go to states than just me. I'd rather thrive as a team than leave them out to go in an individual event.
