Personal Statement

Sophomore year Cross Country was the first season I began running competitively. After going into that season with little expectations, I was surprised by the success and enjoyment that I had experienced. As the 2012 season drew to a close I knew that there was much room for me to improve. Immediately I began training, but was unfortunately forced to miss the track season due to a stress fracture. Throughout the time I took off from running I was dedicated to getting stronger and developing into a new running form.  After reaching full recovery I was determined to come back for the Cross Country season stronger than I had ever been. This past season was an eye opener for what I was capable of accomplishing with my team. During the season I fluctuated between the fourth and sixth spot on varsity and had the opportunity to run in the state meet. I would be an asset for your team at a collegiate level because I am focused and determined to do the work in order to improve. Every day of practice I show up with excitement to get better, run faster, and build a stronger team. I understand the great potential that myself and my teammates are capable of. Middleton High School's cross country team has a work ethic and support system like no other team I have seen in our state. I would love to have the opportunity to take a piece of that mindset and bring it to the collegiate level. My personality has always been someone who is outgoing, strong-willed and determined. Anything that I choose to participate in I will give every ounce of effort in order to complete it at the best of my ability. I believe I am different than many other athletes because not only do I run at a very competitive level, I am also very competitive academically. School is always a huge priority, and the mindset I use during a cross country race is similar to my work ethic utilized in my academics. If you leave everything that you got either on the course, or in the classroom, you will have no regrets in life.
