Personal Statement
My name is Madeya Evans from Glendale, Arizona and I am currently a senior graduating in 2017. I play on both my high school volleyball team and on a high-performing club team. I am interested in playing for a competitive and fast-paced collegiate volleyball program while I obtain my degree.
I consider myself a mentally tough player with a high volleyball IQ. I am very athletic and come from two parents who both played at the collegiate level - volleyball and baseball. We are considered a taller than average family with mom at 6', dad at 6' 4" and my younger 15-year old brother currently at 6' 2". While my 5'8.5" height isn't on par yet with the rest of my family, I more than make up for it with my current 30" approach jump and with my goal to continue to increase my approach through hard work and dedication off the court prior to club season getting into full swing.
I am a very competitive OH on my school team (Mountain Ridge High School) and I earned my Varsity letter my freshman year. I have been playing for the Livewire volleyball club team for the past five years as a starting OH on the Black team each year. Our team has qualified for Nationals for the past five seasons. I was also a USAV High Performance Camp participant two years in a row (2012 & 2013).
As a student, I am considering Psychology but am still keeping my options open. My goal is to positively represent any program that I participate in and to contribute to the academic success and exceed expectations that this university and this athletic program have.
