Personal Statement
My name is Sara Kennedy, and I am a right-handed starting opposite hitter for San Diego Volleyball Club’s 18-G. My strengths are opposite and outside hitting, but I am frequently playing back row because of my defensive skills. I also play bigger than my size and have exceptional court awareness.
I am a junior at Westview High School and will be graduating with the class of 2017. During the summer before my freshman year, I decided to try volleyball to play with my friends. I fell in love with the sport and have worked hard with private coaching and gym training to become the best player I can be. I continued playing volleyball on both my Freshman and JV teams, as well as playing at San Diego Volleyball Club 15-G and 16-S. I now compete on Westview's Varsity team, as well as playing an age division above my year on San Diego Volleyball Club's 18-G travel team.
Playing volleyball over these past few years has taught me the value of teamwork, discipline and dedication, which are traits that will help me for the rest of my life. For the past five years, I have worked with children as a volunteer camp counselor and elementary school learning assistant at a local charter school, and I now have a job working for Extended Student Services at my old elementary school. Working with children has helped me grow to be a patient, assertive and outgoing individual. These attributes help me both on and off the volleyball court to be a great teammate, sacrifice for others and remain positive under any circumstance. With these characteristics, I am able to not repeat past mistakes and thrive under pressure. Thank you for viewing my profile and I will continue to update my information as it changes.
