Ever since I was five years old I have played a team sport, so I know what it takes to be a great team player. Just being a good athlete is not enough. Great team players are reliable, adaptable, and committed to their team. They are someone who can look beyond their own performance to strengthen the team’s overall performance. They are respectful and supportive of their teammates and know how to honestly and clearly communicate their ideas while respecting the views and opinions of others. Everyone on a team plays a different role, according to their strengths. For example, even though I like to play outside hitter, my strength is defense. I have grown to love playing defensive specialist because I know that the key to a successful offense on the volleyball court starts with a great pass from me.
I believe I would be an asset to any collegiate volleyball program because I possess all the attributes of a great team player. When I am on the volleyball court I am always positive and have the ability to make everyone around me believe in themselves. I help redirect the focus from negative to positive. Off the court I am always cheering people up and I can make anyone laugh. I am unique in that once I begin something I complete it with 100% of my effort. I am always determined to do my personal best in whatever I try and encourage others to do the same. I love to work out at the gym because I know it helps improve my performance on the court - both mentally and physically. And from an academic standpoint, I work hard to get good grades and try to learn from everything that is taught to me in order to broaden my education and life.
I grew up in a family that values honesty, compassion, education, teamwork, and a commitment to always be your best. These values along with my experiences have guided me through life. I know that I still have a lot to learn and experience but I believe I have a strong foundation. This foundation will help me achieve my long range goal of completing college and preparing for a job that allows me to continually develop and grow. And of course, I hope to always be involved with some type of volleyball program.
