Personal Statement
Most do not acknowledge the journey of the "late start" athlete. Personally, as someone who had done Taekwondo from the young age of 6 and continued competing up until high school, I hadn't realized how daunting it is to be emersed in a brand new sport - with a definite disadvantage.
When I first decided to make the sport change to volleyball in the summer going to my high school year, I was primarily focused on learning more about the sport, enjoying my experiences, and seeking out new connections. Though a good three years have passed since I started, my aspirations have never changed. All except for one "small" addition: the goal of committing and playing in college.
Building my passion and love for this sport has been a major driving force in my determination to thrive in my environment. Despite being at a disadvantage when it comes to experience, in terms of the number of years I have been playing, I have felt as though it has only driven me to continuously put in my 110% in everything I do.
Team goals are definitely more important than any individual aspiration. I want to be the glue that bonds my team together, so we bring the best out of us and work together. On the court, I love to encourage my teammates and aid in whatever way I can, to not only make myself successful but those around me as well. I have been told by my coaches and teammates that I am an enormously positive energy on the court and am never quiet on the bench. As a libero, I tend to be the eyes for my team and communicated on how the ball is coming and what to expect so my teammates can be ready.
I have always been a straight “A” student and I intend on maintaining it. I also have always been the leader amongst my fellow athletes helping them to work together and to never give up. In academics, I received many scholastic achievement awards from San Bernardino Country Superintendent of Schools, United State Congress, California State Senate, County School Board of Supervisors, Rotary Club and Special Congressional Recognition from US of Representatives.
I have great passion in playing volleyball and for learning, which makes me want to continue my volleyball career at a collegiate level. I would like to compete for a college where I may achieve my athletic and my academic goals.
I look forward to building a strong connection with you.
Thank you
