Personal Statement
My academic interests are in health sciences, as my career aspirations are to work in the area of trauma and rehabiliation, possibly joining the military after college to assist in the Wounded Warrior program. I appreciate intensity and will apply that to my studies and career, and also to playing college volleyball. I appreciate the role my school coaches have put me in the last three years as co-captain of the varsity volleyball team and as the team Setter, and the responsibility I have been given by the coach in play calling and helping my team to reach the State finals for three consecutive years. As a Setter it is my goal to put my hitters in a position where they can be the most effective. I have had the honor of being recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as Athlete of the Week for the State of Colorado and have set school records in match and season assists. I have also played varsity basketball for three years in the post position, and as Captain of the team have helped to lead my team to the State Basketball finals for two consecutive years. I am on the track team and have been to the State finals two consecutive years in shot put. I was also honored by receiving the Coaches Choice Award for Athlete of the Year Spring 2015, Manitou Springs High School. As a hobby I am lucky to have my horse to ride through the mountains.
I believe I would be an asset to a competitive college volleyball team as I take direction well and my strengths are in providing leadership on the court and always providing support and encouragement of my teammates. What makes me different from other recruits in character may be best told by a brief story...in a huddle at the State Volleyball semi-final match, with our team down 2 games to 0, I said to my teammates...."we are not ready to go home yet....are we!" Our team went onto win 3 games to 2 and advanced into the Championship match. We are heading to State again this year with the same determination. I apply this commitment in school, in sports and in my family life. I am most proud of my twin brother, co-captain of our varsity football and basketball teams (6'5") who just received the highest scouting rank of Eagle Scout. He is my inspiration.
