Personal Statement

I am a senior at Niwot High School. I am a part of the Advanced Placement Program taking high level classes in a variety of different subjects. I am a part of the National Honor Society and I have earned an Academic Letter every year. I volunteer in the nursery at a local church and I am employed as a Swim Instructor with the City of Longmont.

As a volleyball player, I am motivated as well as hard-working and have been told by many coaches that I am very coachable. I also enjoy the responsibility that being a setter entails and I have a reputation for staying calm and level-headed on the court. I enjoy having fun and being friends with my teammates both on and off the court. I am excited for the opportunity to play volleyball at the collegiate level. I would love to earn the job as starting setter for a college with a strong volleyball program.

  • Notes: Starting setter played mostly 5-1 sometimes in a 6-2. Played right side front row in 6-2. I am pleased to recommend Jenny Townsend for your volleyball program. I was her U17 coach during the 2014 season for Loveland Volleyball Club. During her time playing on my team, Jenny showed greatly improving skill, coach-ability, and strong character. She was a stand-out setter for this team. She brought good skills as a setter to the team, and grew in her abilities as the season went on. Her setting improved over the season to be more accurate, have fewer errors, and send a wider variety of faster sets to her hitters. We did have two setters on the the team and often played 6-2. With Jenny's abilities, she was an effective blocker and right side hitter when playing in the front row. She always had a good attitude about making changes and trying new things. She had a strong work ethic, always attending practices and giving her all every time we played. She was an eager participant in strength and endurance training. She showed an even-temper on the court,and helped our team to stay encouraged and have fun together. Jenny's performance the second day of the Crossroads Tournament ( Denver JNQ) was particularly notable. Our second setter was not able to attend, so Jenny set for all three matches. We came in first in our pool with strong performances by Jenny and her teammates. She played every point this day and throughout virtually the entire season as well. In conclusion, Jenny displays the qualities any coach would look for in a player: strong skills, good attitude, sportsmanship, and leadership.
