There is a quote that my volleyball coach told us all the time. It goes: “Hardwork beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” I believe this to be true. As an athlete, my work ethic and determination to train hard are core values of mine. I may not be the most talented person on the court, but I compensate by being the one working the hardest. I have played volleyball since sixth grade, and I love the sport with my whole heart. Like my coach, I believe that the innate athletic skills a person has means little unless they also have a good work ethic, commitment, and passion. I have seen many athletes skate through their high school career without grit and without passion, and frankly, it looks miserable. I think that I excel at volleyball simply because I put in the work to become the best that I can be on and off the court.
I want to play in college, whether that looks like redshirting and just practicing with the team to get better or playing on a smaller team. I want to play to improve my skills and continuing to participate in the sport that I love.
